Ohio early voting begins today April 7 2026 for May 2026 primary election voters at polling station

Today, Ohio voters can cast their votes through in-person early voting and absentee voting by mail, which officially opens for the May 2026 primary election. The primary will be held on Tuesday, May 5, and will be the initial move in the 2026 state election cycle.

State election officials have also assured them that early voting places are now open in all 88 counties. Residents may vote either at their county election offices or at designated locations at specific times. The timeline will be up to May 3 to accommodate busy schedules and maximise attendance before election day.

Early Face-to-Face Voting Schedule

The hours for voting vary slightly from week to week to allow flexibility. Polls will be open between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. between April 7 and April 10. The same hours are between April 13-17 and April 20-24. The later hours start later in the period, with April 27 being open between 7.30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., and April 28 being open between 7.30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Evening voting begins on April 29 to May 1, with 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and

To verify the precise locations, voters are advised to consult the specifications of their local board of elections, as these are located in different parts of each county for convenience. One does not need an appointment, and upon eligibility, he/she needs to identify himself/herself with a photo.

Absentee Voting by Mail Is Now Available

Today, April 7, absentee ballots by mail were also made available. The electorate can also demand ballots from their respective county boards of elections and submit them either by mail or in person. The application should be received by the boards before 8.30 pm on April 28 to be processed. Any missing ballots must be received by the board of elections by 7.30 pm on May 5 to be counted.

For individuals who prefer to use drop boxes, a majority of counties have secure 24-hour drop boxes open until the closing of polls on election day. The voter or a close relative can only hand the ballot to the voter. The deadlines for uniformed and overseas citizens differ, and in some instances, they are required to submit their ballots by May 9.

The election officials are encouraging the residents to monitor their ballots online using the state system or county websites to ensure their delivery and processing. This gives one peace of mind during the voting window.

As the cost of living, infrastructure, and education are among the major issues likely to feature on the ballot, voting in the primary helps determine the candidate slates for the November general election. Early voting can be the making or breaking of momentum, and the officials are optimistic that convenient voting can increase turnout.

The instructions of the Secretary of State of Ohio underline that each citizen who is eligible to vote can choose several ways of expressing his/her opinion. Individuals with questions may contact local boards directly for help with registration changes or accessibility.

With the early voting beginning, the last few hours of Monday have seen the polls remain open in most places. The voters have been advised to study sample ballots online and schedule their visit in time before the actual May 5 date, before the crowds. The long window gives sufficient time to make informed decisions that will impact the future leadership in the state of Ohio.
